Richelieu & Co., was founded by Mr. Alberton Richelieu an Attorney-at-Law of over 30 years experience in the legal profession in St. Lucia. This firm has garnered unprecedented reputable recognition as a result of Mr. Richelieu’s hard work, passion for the law, the solid foundation that he has prescribed and his distinguished reputation in the legal arena.

This amalgamation is the result of a metamorphosis of the legal firm Alberton Richelieu Chambers founded in 1996 and later, Alberton Richelieu & Associates.

Alternative Dispute Resolution refers to a variety of techniques, which can be used for resolving disputes which arise, without the use of litigation. These techniques include Mediation, Arbitration and Conciliation.
Our firm provides legal representation to persons who are interested in pursuing alternative avenues to resolve their disputes.

Administration of Estate describes the area of law which dictates the manner in which the property of a dead person is distributed after his or her death. Our firm assists persons in engaging in the necessary procedures required to fully administer estates including but not limited to applying for Grants of Probate, Letters of Administration, Letters of Administration with Will Annexed and Resealing of Grants.

Our firm provides legal representation to persons who are interested in initiating or defending claims involving their interest in civil matters. This includes matters involving contracts, negligence, nuisance, defamation, personal injuries, land law and estates.

Corporate Law refers to the area of law governing the formation, operation and dissolution of companies. Our firm provides legal services to persons interested in forming companies, who are in need of legal representation to protect their interests in a company and dissolution of companies. We also assist in obtaining company searches.

Constitutional Law defines the roles, powers and structure of the three arms of the State, the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary and governs the rights of a citizen of the State; whilst administrative law provides an avenue by which the decisions of public officials can be challenged. As a result, our firm provides legal representation to persons who are desirous of defending their constitutional rights or instituting administrative law claims.

We provide legal services to persons desirous of entering into contracts and who need assistance drafting contracts. We also represent clients in complex contractual matters in the Magistrate’s Court, High Court and Courts of Appeal in St.Lucia.

Conveyancing refers to the body of law governing the transfer of property. Our firm advises and provides legal services to persons who are interested in transferring property by way of sale or donation.

Criminal law refers to the body of law governing the commission of offences.
Our firm provides legal services to persons who have been arrested and detained by the Police and those who require representation in the Magistrate’s Court, Coroner’s Court, High Court and Courts of Appeal.

Employment Law refers to the body of law governing labour issues. We represent persons in disciplinary hearings, matters before the Labour Commissioner, the Labour Tribunal and complex labour matters before the Courts of Justice in St.Lucia.

Family Law refers to the body of law governing familial issues including but not limited to divorces, adoptions, custody and marriages. We represent persons in contested and uncontested divorces, custody matters and property settlements after divorce. We also assist persons in the process of adopting children and assist in obtaining marriage licenses in St. Lucia.

Intellectual Property Law refers to the body of law governing the protection of works including images, music and inventions. We offer legal services in this area of law including registration of trademarks and patents.

Land Law refers to the body of law governing rights, shares, interest and title to properties in Saint Lucia. We represent clients in complex matters involving their interests, rights and titles to properties in St. Lucia. We also advise and represent clients in disputes involving landlord-tenant relationships.

We advise clients on the management of their estates in the event of their death and offer legal services in terms of drafting Last Wills and Testament.

We provide notarial services to our clients including the certification of documents, drafting of notarial documents such as Deeds, Last Wills and Testament, Agreements. We also witness the execution of legal documents.

We advise and represent clients in matters involving personal injuries suffered as a result of motor vehicular accidents, occupational accidents, accidents suffered at the workplace and accidents caused by the negligence of other persons.

Our Team

Alberton Richelieu

Mr. Alberton Richelieu Snr. is the Principal Attorney within this Firm.

Mr. Richelieu obtained a Bachelor of Laws, LL.B (Hons.) at the University of the West Indies, Cavehill Campus in 1983. He later obtained a Legal Education Certificate at the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica, in 1985.

Thereafter, he was admitted to the Bar of St. Lucia on 16th October.

Since then, Mr. Richelieu has established an exquisite reputation for his competence and expertise in various legal fields, due to his highly analytical nature. His legal competence and expertise has led him to practice a wide range of legal areas.

Currently, Mr. Richelieu serves as the Head of the Criminal Bar Sub Committee of the St. Lucia Bar Association and Chairman of the Board of Assessment for Land Acquisition. He has also served in several other legal capacities including New Democratic Observer in Election in St. Vincent and the Grenadines as well as Secretary for Registry & District Court Committee in St. Lucia.

Mr. Richelieu has distinguished himself in the legal community of St. Lucia and across the Caribbean, which has resulted in his recognition as one of the many legal luminaries.

He is also admitted to the Bar of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, Grenada and Anguilla.

Alberta Richelieu

Ms. Alberta Richelieu also holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Law and Economics as well as a Master of Science in International Trade Policy, both, from the University of the West Indies.

Thereafter, she pursued a Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP University and completed the Bar Professional Training Course at the University of Law in Bloomsbury, London in November 2017.

Ms. Richelieu was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales on 8th March 2018 as a member of Lincoln’s Inn. She was later admitted to the Bar of Saint Lucia on 5th April 2018 and is currently an Associate within the Firm.

Algitha Richelieu

Ms. Algitha Richelieu attended the University of the West Indies, Cavehill Campus where she obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) with First Class Honours in 2016. During her academic pursuit at the Cavehill Campus, she was awarded the Melanie Kristin Price Foundation Prize in Intellectual Property.

Subsequently, she attended the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad & Tobago and successfully obtained a Legal Education Certificate, having graduated as a member of the Principal’s Honour Roll in 2018.

Ms. Richelieu was admitted to the Bar of St. Lucia in 2018 and is currently an Associate within the Firm.
